Guide 3/10

Divisions and formats

A division is an age group or level in which teams play each other, for example P10 or T12 Challenge. Each division has its own format, match duration and price.

Creating and editing a division

Divisions are created in the guided setup or later on the Divisions page under New division. Division settings are changed on the division page under Edit division.

Competition formats

  • League (round robin): everyone plays everyone once. The clearest choice for a division of 4–8 teams.
  • Double round robin: every pair plays twice.
  • Groups and playoffs: group stage followed by knockout matches.
  • Groups only: only group matches, no knockout stage.
  • Cup / knockout: a straight cup where the loser is out.

Game format, duration and guaranteed matches

Game format tells how many players each team has in play, for example 5 vs 5 or 8 vs 8. The match duration is in the division under Advanced settings (rarely needed). The changeover time between matches is set in the run settings of the match schedule. If the referee clock should go off at the actual playing time, also fill in Playing time (periods × min).

Guaranteed matches / team promises each team at least a certain number of matches, placement matches included. In group formats it sets the group size. In a round robin division the number of matches follows directly from the number of teams.

Placements

Under How are placements decided? on the division page you choose whether all places are decided or only the medals. Placements for all gives every team a final place.

Seeds and group draw

If the teams differ in level, give them a Seed on the division page before making the match schedule (1 = strongest). The group draw puts the strongest teams in different groups and spreads teams from the same club.

A match schedule before the teams are known

If you want to make the match schedule before the teams are known, create Team slots on the division page. Matches are made for slots (for example A1 and B3), and the real teams are placed in them later. Match times and venues do not change.
